Promote Search Results With New Google +1 Button
Jun 10, 2011 by Danielle Sullivan

Have you ever found yourself reading an amazing, enlightening or - my personal favorite -satirical blog post online and thought to yourself “I simply have to Tweet this or share on Facebook so all my friends can read it too!”

Or, maybe you wondered, “What is the most efficient way for me to exalt this blog post so I can simultaneously feel one degree closer to owning the brilliance of the person who actually wrote it while compensating for my life-long deficit of creativity?!”

I certainly know I have.

Not so hypothetically speaking (from my personal experience, that is) what if a few moments after you’ve completed the above social media sharing methods, you aimlessly click on a referenced link from one blog to another….and suddenly you’re wandering around page after page of genius on The Oatmeal.

And now you’ve found something even more fantastic to associate with your digital self image!

This is not that fantastic something

What then?!  It’s too soon to re-Tweet or update your FB status! After all, you have an online image to maintain…

Lucky for people like me, Google has come to the rescue with their new Google +1 Button!  This experiment is currently a part of Google Labs and has the potential to be great both for Internet users and the websites of blog authors.

Google +1 is an instant way to promote anything you find in the Google search results to users across the web. If the button is not already live on your search, all you have to do is opt in to the experiment:

How To Sign Up For Google +1

    1. Make sure you’re signed into your Google Account (required)
    2. Follow the link above and click ‘Join this experiment’

    3. Search for something you love on Google.com

    4. Click the new +1 button, and make your mark on the web
Then, +1-away and others will see in the search listings that you approve and have already found a piece of solid content on the saturated web.

Additionally, website owners can also add the +1 button right on their sites so you can +1 directly from a post or product on the site!

Your Google profile image and name will appear under the search listings as your official stamp of approval.

Once again, it looks like Google has found a way to make our online existence as intuitive and user friendly as possible. If there were a way, I’d totally +1 Google right now.  Oh wait…now I can!
